Introduction:
If you’ve encountered errors in VirtualBox related to the path or location of your virtual machine (VM), you’re not alone. This is a common issue, especially if you’ve moved VM files manually or changed some settings outside of the VirtualBox interface. In this blog post, we’ll explore the root causes of this problem and guide you step-by-step on how to resolve it.

Why Does This Issue Appear?
- Manual Movement of VM Files: VirtualBox keeps track of where your VM files are located. If you move them manually without informing VirtualBox, it will still look for them in their original location and throw an error when it can’t find them.
- Unexpected System Shutdowns: Sudden power losses or system crashes can corrupt VirtualBox’s configuration files or leave them in an inconsistent state.
- Editing Configuration Files: Manually editing VirtualBox’s configuration files without fully understanding their structure can lead to path inconsistencies or other errors.
Step-by-Step Solution:
- In the VM list, right-click on the problematic VM and select ‘Remove’. Choose “Remove only” so you don’t delete the actual VM files.
- Click on
Machine
>Add
. Configure “Name and Operating Systems” , “Hardware” and after that
“Hard Disk”. Navigate to the location where your VM files currently reside and select the.vbox
file and save - Add port 8093 > 8093 into the vm port forwarding. Navigate to “Network” > Adapter NAT > advanced > Port forwarding. After that Validate the VM: start the VM to ensure it operates without any errors.
